I'm in The Nation, talking about Anthropic and the politics of killer robots
Check it out!
A quick announcement, before I let this newsletter slip back into dormancy: As you might have gathered from the headline, I’ve got a piece in The Nation on why Anthropic might not be the hero some are making it out to be.
Before we hand Amodei the Nobel Peace Prize that Trump so desperately covets, it’s worth remembering that Anthropic isn’t some innocent tech ingenue that’s been dragged into a slap-fight with Trump and Hegseth. The $380 billion company had been an enthusiastic, voluntary participant in Trump’s war machine, signing its Pentagon contract, eyes wide open, in July 2025, long after it was abundantly clear just what Trump 2.0 was all about.
Anyway, check it out, and also check out my new blog BROTOPIANS, which deals with the weirdly utopian if also completely undemocratic dreams of the tech elite — especially check it out if you’re a new subscriber to this largely defunct newsletter who signed up after seeing me on The Left Hook, because BROTOPIANS is where I actually talk about the sort of stuff I talked about with Waj, as opposed to on this newsletter, which I will remind you again is largely kaput except for announcements like these.
