(Philip K.) Dick pics: Do AIs dream of electric sheep?
I force Midjourney to imagine some weird shit
Sometimes I like to challenge Midjourney and other AI art generators to come up with art based on very broad or abstract prompts—” artificial intelligence,” “AI apocalypse,” “after the AI takeover,” or “after AI takes over what will the robots do to me?” (I guess I’m a little obsessed with that particular topic.)
It occurred to me to try this with some titles from Philip K. Dick novels, which are often quite enigmatic and poetic, just to see what Midjourney might come up with for them. I started off with the classic “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” and I wasn’t disappointed with the results, which often turned out poetic and enigmatic in their own ways. The picture at the top of this post is probably the creepiest, though this one comes close:
I usually specify s particular style for the artwork, like “1960s pulp science fiction style” (” Do Androids … “was originally published in 1968) or “collage, retro.’
When I specified no artistic parameters at all, it got a little more literal, but also a bit more spooky.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering just what the robots will do to you once AI takes over, I have some answers. They will:
Hover over you, giving unhelpful suggestions while you’re trying to fix things.
Steal your girlfriend (or boyfriend, presumably):
And re-form Daft Punk:
So life will basically suck, but at least there will be music to dance to. to
There will be more Philip K. Dick pics to come.
